The Newsletters Newsletter

This is a newsletter about … journalism newsletters. Look no further than Journalist’s Toolbox’s e-newsletters page for resources on how to build and market a newsletter. I highly recommend Substack, which I use for this newsletter, but MailChimp and many others work well, too.

We also provide a deep list of newsletters about the media, investigative reporting, data journalism, audience engagement and many other journalism-related topics. I highly recommend subscribing to all of them. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • 10 Journalism Jobs and a Photo of My Dog Newsletter
A curated list of journalism jobs from across the U.S. with links back to the original source so you can follow up with potential employers. You also get a cute pic of newsletter author Mandy Hofmockel’s yellow lab.

  • Wonder Tools
CUNY’s Jeremy Caplan digs deep on great tools, tips and tricks that will make you a better, more productive journalist. This is a great newsletter for journalism profs and students as well.

  • Freelancing with Tim
This weekly newsletter offers tips from reporters and editors on freelance journalism as well as advice on managing the business side.

  • Tools for Reporters Newsletter
Tech tools advice from freelancer and data journalist Samantha Sunne.

  • Poynter also has a helpful list of journalism newsletters.

  • If your newsletter isn’t listed on my e-newsletters page, you can submit it here and I'll add it in.
