#MojoWorkshop Resources and Video Documentaries
I had the pleasure of speaking at Robb Montgomery’s MojoWorkshop virtual conference a couple of weeks ago. I attended the sessions as well and came away inspired and added many new resources for my class, including some incredible video examples.
My handout from my apps session, a list of cool apps, practical examples and video.
A Trello board of useful tools that Victor Hernandez of WBUR and I built.
My favorite part of the conference was when mobile video and documentary filmmakers from around the world (it was truly a global conference) shared some of their favorite work. If you teach, these are wonderful examples for your students on how to shoot with mobile devices. Watch the framing, sequences, use of light, etc.
Paint it From the Rooftops
An artist who took to the roof of his Dublin studio to paint during the pandemic prepares to launch a unique exhibition of his work.
Gerard Byrne, who is known for his “en plain air” landscape and architectural works, completed more than 50 paintings and a number of charcoal sketches during the months of lockdown in 2020. Unable to travel in search of beauty, Byrne explains how he was forced to find the beauty directly around him. Filmed and edited on iPhone/iPad for RTE News, Ireland's public service broadcaster.
Bosnia: Where Europe Ends
It is known as the Balkan route, it is the path taken by migrants trying to reach North Europe from Greece. In this short documentary, the "route" has been halted by Croatian police violence and its illegal deportation, by the wall built by Hungary along its border. This has turned Bosnia into a trap, where thousands of migrants face horrible living conditions. This short documentary tells the events happened during the Xmas Holiday 2020/21 when a fire at Lipa camp left migrants fighting for their life against hunger, snow and ice. It shows what none in Bruxelles want to see, the end of Europe and its humanitarian values.

Make Podcasts Visual
Create visual audio clips and podcasts with the Headliner.app desktop tool. It’s intuitive and easy to learn. Here’s a training video from Mike on how to use it:
Around the Web
We find useful tools and resources so you don’t have to search the web and app stores for them:
World Climate Service
WCS provides global subseasonal and seasonal forecast (i.e., long-range forecasts) to commercial entities. The site is helpful to journalists because long-lead forecasts are becoming a critical source of information to detect emerging climate hazard risks.
Build cool maps without code.
Cool Tool Tuesday
Don’t forget that at 1 p.m. CT each Tuesday, we feature a new resource on #cooltooltuesday, like you see in our Around the Web section of this newsletter. Be sure to check it out and retweet it. Here’s a video of some of my past faves:
